Swindle, who became chief executive on Jan. 1, is being treated for stage-four metastatic pancreatic cancer and will continue as a special adviser during the transition.

CoreCivic Inc. (NYSE: CXW) said Friday morning that Patrick D. Swindle has resigned as president and chief executive and from the board, and that Lucibeth N. Mayberry has been named president and chief executive effective Sept. 25. The company issued the announcement at 8 a.m. Eastern.
